OPERA America, an advocacy organization for US opera companies and singers, announced a new board chair and other leadership changes.
Lee Anne Myslewski, who also serves as vice president of opera and classical programming for Wolf Trap Opera, has been appointed the new chairwoman. Myslewski succeeds Susan Marineau, who has resigned before the end of her term due to health reasons. Myslewski will serve out Marineau’s term through June 30, 2025.
In other moves, Jamelah Rimawi was promoted to chief programs officer. In her previous role, she was involved in expanding opera’s reach through inclusion programs and collaborations, such as with the Black Administrators of Opera and the Racial Justice Opera Network. Prior to OPERA America, she worked in management at New York’s International Fringe Festival.
In addition, Megan Carpenter was promoted to senior manager of government affairs and civic practice. They lead OPERA America’s national anti-harassment program Opera RESPECTS, as well as the LGBTQIA+ Opera Network. Carpenter also previously worked in management at the Bard SummerScape festival.
Founded in 1970, OPERA America counts over 600 opera companies in its membership. The organization aims to support opera as an art form through national convenings, research, advocacy, granting, thought leadership, and other programs.
